Hints on Color Usage

• First of all it is important how big the area you are painting is. Is your room narrow, low, high or wide?

• Do you want your room to look warm or cool?

• Does your room have features you want to hide or accentuate? If you are using similar tones you will hide the features, if you use dark tones you will accentuate them.

• How does the daylight fall on your room? Do you want to emphasize the light or soften it?

• If your room is dark, very light, very small or very big or long or narrow you can balance it out by using sensitive color selections.

• The most important subject to keep in mind is that dark and warm colors give a feeling of coming closer whereas light and cold colors give the feeling of distance.

• If your room faces the south and gets a lot of light you can soften this light. Your cold color selections will help on this subject.

• If your room faces the north and does not get any light you should choose warmer colors to create a warmer atmosphere.

• When choosing your colors you should remember that they can look different under different sources of lights.
